Interview with Vera from the Gärtnerei

Vera Högger is General Manager of the Gärtnerei

Why is a visit to the Gärtnerei worthwhile?

Vera: The Gärtnerei is the perfect place to get a healthy meal. We work without any artificial additives. Everything is freshly prepared every day. All guest, whether vegan, vegetarian or “meat eater”, feels welcome with us. They will find something suitable for everyone (otherwise it will be made to fit) and because of our friendly teams.

Why do you cooperate with We Care. We Share. and why did you choose the drinking water project in Burkina Faso, Africa?

Vera: We support WCWS’s idea that it can and should be easy to do something good! That is why we are now encouraging our guests to do the same. I also truly appreciate how WCWS helps to find the right project for you. They provide the designs and texts, also to prevent «greenwashing». I really like that, and it saves me work. (laughs)
We decided to start with the drinking water project. Having clean drinking water, like we have it in Switzerland is not a given. Therefore, the project helps to appreciate and this treasure of water. At the same time we are able to help children and families in Burkina Faso.

At We Care. We Share. a lot revolves around conscious consumption. What do you personally look for when you shop?

Vera: I was strongly influenced here by my grandmother. There were very few things in her household, such as a bar of curd soap. The soap had to last for the whole year, so it had an enormous value for her. Having been raised like this I naturally start with the conscious decision as to whether I need the product at all. Are there items of clothing or children’s equipment also available as second-hand? With today’s multiple second-hand offering platforms, it is easy to find items of good quality. And what is also part of it for me: cleaning out the household again and again and reselling stuff. You need very little to live! When it comes to food, I pay attention to the origin and of course the season. If possible, from the farmer I trust.
