Support the people of Ukraine

Your donation will be doubled by supporting foundations. Helvetas is our partner that runs the project.

Project focus: emergency relief (later support in reconstruction)

The war in Ukraine is catastrophic for the Ukrainian people, and also directly impacts people in neighboring countries. According to United Nations estimates, over 5 million people have fled the country (4/20/2022), another 6 million migrated inside Ukraine. They are seeking shelter in areas that have not yet been affected, and in neighboring countries. Many refugees have had to leave everything behind, including their loved ones.

Inside Ukraine, Helvetas is active with its partners and the support of Swiss Solidarity. Thousands of internally displaced persons have in western Ukraine already received hot meals, mattresses, hygiene articles, electric stoves as well as cash and vouchers to buy the essentials the need, themselves. Local restaurants, canteens and self-help groups also receive financial support to provide free or low-cost meals to refugees. In doing so, we support the local economy.

To the south, in neighbouring Moldova, Helvetas offers refugees what they need most of all: warm rest areas for women with small children and elderly people, help with transport to the shelters, SIM cards, access to the internet, and much more.

For everyone, but especially for mothers with small children, the elderly and the handicapped persons, the fleeing is an enormous strain.

Moldova is located southeast of Ukraine and is one of the poorest countries in Europe. But the solidarity with the refugees is enormous. Many accommodate entire families in their homes.
